Applications of BBa_K1178000

The synthetase charges the tRNA with the non-canonical amino acid 3,4-dihydroxy-L-phenylalanine (L-DOPA) at the UAG codon.

The synthetase gene can be mutated so that the synthetase then charges the tRNA with a different non-canonical amino acid. There is a list of these non-canonial amino acids and references to their sequences available.[1]

This system works best in the RF0 E. coli strain.[2]
